Nicoa Coach:

sometimes don't you just need a quick moment of inspiration. Or maybe you just need a moment of caffeinated contemplation to reflect on life. That's the idea behind my weekly coffee with Nicola espresso shots. I'll be sharing short jolts of inspiration in each clip, in addition to my longer Coffee with Nicoa interview episodes, make sure to subscribe so you never miss an espresso shot, or a full length Coffee with Nicoa interview created just for you. Hey, guys, it's Nicoa coming to you for your weekly espresso shot. I just want to tell you how smart you are, you're smarter than you think you are. You know, I see a lot of my clients overly preparing overly researching, trying to play out every single scenario like with the what ifs and, and they're really burning themselves out and let you know, you know enough. And by the way, if you don't know the answer, or you don't know how to do something, guess what you've never lived with as much information at the tip of your fingertips as you are right now. And don't forget, you got to chat GPT to help you out as well. I mean, my goodness, I'm not sure my kids will ever have to call me for advice anymore. At the end of the day, I want you to backup the end. And let's really think about why I'm talking about this. A lot of my clients actually have this insecurity. Well, how can I hang my shingle and claim I'm a coach, if I've only been coaching for a few months, or I've just started my certification process. Here's the secret sauce. Be honest with the people you are serving or want to serve. And they will want you to be successful. So you tell them the truth, hey, I'm in the middle of training. I am learning to be a coach, I am learning this new job. You know, a lot of people and I'll give you an example when I first started my job. When I was 25 years old, I got hired by General Electric. So GE hires me, I happen to have a master's degree that I went straight from undergrad right into my graduate program. Well, I had about a six month break where I worked at in an internship. But I come out of this training. And I remember, I applied for the job through the newspaper of all places. My mother cut the ad out of the Wilmington, Star News and mailed it to me in Raleigh, North Carolina. And I applied, and I got an interview. And I got an interview because I was the most qualified on paper. I had very little experience. But I had the degree. And I got hired. And I remember thinking holy crap, they have hired me. And I don't know what I am doing. Not only did I begin to have panic attacks, but I went to the employee assistance program three months into my job, because I was having anxiety of the back of my neck thinking, I've never done this, I can't believe they've hired me. Not only did they hire me, they gave me a direct report. Somebody in an office with a door. I'm 25 I was freaking out. Now fortunately, the leader that hired me saw something in me and said, I'm gonna bet on this kid, I'm gonna bet on her because I can teach her I can mold her, I can groom her. And he did. And, and so did the person that reported to me who was still a very close friend of mine. And she kind of put her arm around me. And she was like, You need to talk to that guy. Don't forget to talk to this person. Oh, you haven't written that yet. By the way, we're supposed to write that every week, I was the communications leader for GE nuclear in the Wilmington facility, nuclear and aircraft engines I will share. And to this day, I'm still a little bit shocked that they hired me. But I was able to take enough knowledge and leverage my resources and the people around me to figure it out. And I promise you, there's a reason why you're overwhelmed when you start a new job, or you're just beginning something new. It's because you've never done it before. But every day will be that one extra day that you have done it. So trust yourself, believe in yourself and recognize that of course you don't know how to do it and you don't think you're smart enough? Because you've never done it before. And you know, this applies to parenting as well. There's this little trick that I figured out at some point when I began to realize how hard it was to be a parent. I remember once sitting with my oldest and we weren't having some sort of disagreement or we were frustrated and I got real quiet. And I said to him justice, how old are you are as my dad would say, How long have you been with me now? And he said whatever his age was, he was probably 14. And I said, Well excuse me, burping all over my espresso shot. Pardon me. I said, Well gee. asked us, if you're 14, and how many days and he was like 12 days, I was like 14 years and 12 days. Well today, that 12th Day is the first 14 year and 12 today that I've been a parent of a kid your age. And it was really key, because we have to remember, we can't know it all. We've never done it all. And that every day is an opportunity to learn so that we can do what we want to do even more effectively. So I want you to really focus in on that and recognize that you're smarter than you think you are. You are smart enough. Thanks for listening.
